A Tax Residency Certificate is a documentary proof issued by the Tax authorities certifying the place of residence of the Person. – The said certificate is required to claim the benefits of DTAA i.e. to be taxed at the lower rates or claim any exemption available as per DTAA or Income Tax Act.
– Typically it takes 10-15 days to obtain the TRC from the tax authorities.
– No it is not mandatory to obtain TRC, however you shall not be entitled to claim the benefits of DTAA in the absence of DTAA.
